What piqued your interest in LOCAL MOTIV3S when determining if you wanted to perform this gig?

I have been following Turntable Talks for a while now and was really excited when they asked me to be apart of this huge event. I think Turntable Talks is creating a really special networking tool for the music scene. I’m looking forward to what the future brings for Turntable Talks. Plus, I always support local companies and promoters that support both myself and my company. We are all in this together.

What drives you personally as a performing artist in our Minneapolis music scene?

When I first started djing, I just wanted to play because I loved music and DJing. After a few years, my motivation has evolved into two things:

1. I don’t play for me, I play for us. I love it when the crowd is bouncing and smiling with me. We are all happy and dancing. It’s that amazing energy and happiness I feel from the crowd that keeps me going. It’s incredible. I smile the whole time. I have wanted to quit many times over the last 3 years. It’s the crowd, my friends, and the love I feel at events that keep me going.

2. I want to give back to a music community that has done so much for me. I used to live in a small town and I wasn’t exposed to House or Techno. There were no EDM events.

Fifteen years ago, I moved to Minneapolis and my life changed because of music. I get to dance every weekend. I have met so many amazing music friends. I have immersed myself in the local scene and supported as many promoters and DJ friends as possible. It’s changed my life for the better and I decided I wanted to enhance the culture and music community by hosting my own events with No Boys In The Booth and Tee’s Playhouse. It’s been a ton of work but a lot of fun.

While establishing your creative career in the music industry, what is one valuable lesson you’ve taken away that you can share for others aspiring a career in the industry?

Find your own identity so you can be unique. Don’t just try to sound exactly like someone famous. That will work at first, but, as you get better at your art, take those elements that are really good at it and make it yours. There are endless possibilities with music. Don’t give up. Also, don’t just play the bangers. Put some work into finding tracks that most people haven’t heard but they will probably love when you throw it down.

What would you say our current nightlife scene is in need of most right now?

There is more going on in the scene today than ever before. As promoters, we have to work together. When the music scene is successful, we are all successful. As fans, try to have an open mind and take a risk every once in a while. Just because you don’t know the headliner or their music doesn’t mean you won’t like them. Trust the local promoters are bringing in really good talent.

Can you give us any insight on what to expect from your performance on Monday Night? Are there any tracks, artists, and/or genres/sub-genres of EDM you’re looking forward to mixing that you can share with us?

I’m going to play house music!! I haven’t decided on any sub-genres yet. It might be tech, bass, deep, or afro house. I guess you’ll have to show up to find out. ;-)

Be sure to catch Tee So behind the decks, in the 7th St. Entry at LOCAL MOTIV3S, alongside a lineup of headlining artists including White Balance, Lucy Luxe, Ragebeards, and T-Cern B2B with Weebz!
