Gareth McGrillen and Rob Swire formed drum and bass band, Pendulum, in 2002. Eventually, the two artists created their side project, Knife Party. In May of 2011, Rob Swire released a sneak peek on SoundCloud titled “Not Pendulum”. Not long afterward, the two Australian DJs released their first EP, 100% No Modern Talking, in December. The EP was released digitally through Warner Bros Records. Knife Party’s remix of Nero’s track “Crush On You” later that year was one of the many singles to come that kept fans eager for more. A year later, their second EP was released digitally through Big Beat Records in May of 2012. The EP entitled Rage Valley received recognition worldwide. Their track “Bonfire” off the EP was featured in the fifth season of AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’. With consistency in releasing chart worthy music, Knife Party hit #37 on the Billboard 200 for their third EP. The EP, Haunted House also reached the iTunes Top 10 Album Chart peaking at #3.
In 2013, Rob Swire announced the duo would be taking a six-month break from live performances. The break was thought necessary to focus more on producing music. A month later, Rob Swire made an announcement that Knife Party will be recording and releasing their first debut studio album. In the fall of 2014, Knife Party released their debut album entitled Abandon Ship. Tracks from the album were featured later during a noteworthy set at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. The album had also received support from BBC Radio 1XTRA. A year later, Knife Party performed a set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, FL. During the performance, Knife Party debuted three new tracks from an up and coming EP to be released. The tracks included “Parliament Funk”, “Plur Police”, and “Kraken” feat. Tom Staar. In July of 2015, Knife Party released the title of their most recent EP, Trigger Warning.
The two artists gained substantial street credit in the music industry from Knife Party fans and critics. Their success granted them recognition from fellow artists in the industry including Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia. Knife Party has accompanied artists like Jauz, Tommy Trash, Porter Robinson, and Hardwell. Knife Party is among many of the talented artists that represent the face of the Electronic Music Scene. Over the course of five years, Rob and Gareth have more than just made a name for the progression in Dubstep and Electro House. They have paved a path for inspiring the evolution in the music industry.
